We took a bus tour from Barcelona to Montserrat, and then rode a train up to the Monastery located at the top of the mountain.

80 Monks live in Montserrat. Montserrat is also home to a school for boys run by the Monks. 9-14 year old boys are sent to this school to be part of Europe's oldest boys choir, and to learn about music.
The cathedral at Montserrat was one of my favorites. It had so many statues, carvings, paintings, etc. Everything was so intricate and ornate. The cathedral is also home to the statue "The Black Madonna." It is a black statue who is carved sitting down with her hand outstretched holding a ball. It is a tradition to visit her and kiss or touch her outstretched hand. (We had to wait in a long line to see her.)
We sat through a little bit of Mass. Of course I didn't understand one word of it!
