Stitches

A few months ago I had a mole removed on my back and the pathology came back as abnormal. They were not sure if they got all the abnormal cells or not since it was removed in pieces, so on Monday the doctor cut out around my scar. I went into this expecting 2 or 3 stitches, and came out with 12. She cut into my back pretty deep, so she put in 3 deep stitches and 9 surface stitches. I've never had stitches before, and I know this is definitely a lame reason to need stitches but I thought I'd blog about it anyway. The frustrating thing is that they are in that one place on my back that is nearly impossible for me to get to, so I have to wait for James to be home so I can shower and he can change the bandage. It's also annoying because it ended up being right next to my shoulder blade so I feel it tugging everytime I move my arm.

The doctor called me today to tell me everything came back normal, and the stitches will be removed next Thursdsay.

On another note, Miss Lexi found the thermometer and thought it was fun to take her temperature over and over and over again...Checkin' it out...No fever....yay!!

Lexi's Seizure

Lexi had a febrile seizure on Thursday morning. She had a temperature all night Wednesday night and I ended up taking her to the doctor Thursday morning. Her temperature was only 100.1 at the doctor's office, and they couldn't find anything wrong with her, so they sent us home and told us to keep an eye on her temperature. We went home and she fell asleep on the couch. She woke up after about 10 minutes and came and layed her head on my shoulder and fell back asleep. After a few minutes, she started breathing hard, and then I felt her start to shake. I sat up and looked at her, and her left arm was shaking really fast, her eyes were half open and glazed over, and I started calling her name and she was not responding-just blankly staring. I called 911, and they had me put a cold wash cloth on the back of her neck. The seizure stopped soon after I did that-her body relaxed and she started moaning. After a few minutes of that, she stopped moaning and I held her until the paramedics got here. They evaluated her and said she seemed to be stable and gave me the option of either having them bring her to Children's Hospital or I could drive her back to her doctor's office. I decided to take her to her doctor and called James to have him meet us there. She still was not acting herself at this point, just blankly staring the whole car ride to the doctor. Once we got there, she started to come back to normal and I told her daddy was coming and so she started talking about "dada coming". The nurse practitioner at the doctor's office evaluated her and everything seemed fine. Her temperature was 103.6 this time at the office so we gave her another dose of ibuprofen. Lexi came home and slept for a few hours and seemed back to normal when she woke up. She hasn't had a fever since Thursday, and has been her happy energetic self all weekend. It was a really scary thing to go through, but everything ended up turning out okay. Now that she has had a febrile seizure, we have to be really careful when she gets a fever and make sure she gets tylenol/ibuprofen to keep it down. Hopefully it won't happen again, but they told us that kids can be prone to these seizures until about 5 years of age.

The Cruise, Spring Break 2010

For Spring Break this year, we drove down to Miami with Shayne and Sherri and went on a 7 day Caribbean Cruise. We stopped in the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, and Grand Turk.

Leaving Miami...Relaxing in the sun, eating softserve icecream (which was available the entire time, any time of the day...yummy!)It was fun to get dressed up for dinner every night. We ate our dinners in the Gold Olympian ballroom. It was really fancy, and we had AWESOME waiters!

Here we are with our team of waiters that we had every night...Vaughn was from St Vincent, I dont remember where Nestor was from, and Julius was from the Phillipines. They were so great!James and Shayne on the top deck watching the NCAA tournament games on a 12 x 24 foot big screen TV...Every night they put on a show in the Venetian...You aren't supposed to take pictures, but Sherri took a picture of part of the stage. It was really neat, and we really enjoyed all the shows (most nights it was singing and dancing, but we did have a hypnotist one night which was HILARIOUS!)James and Shayne with Kate (they had a crush on her)...she was the star singer that performed almost every night, and she was really amazing! Every night during dinner, they would come and clean our room, turn down our sheets, and leave us towel animals, chocolates, and the itinerary for the next day. We were so spoiled!

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas

We spent the day on the beach in the Bahamas, and the cruise staff came on the island and grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. The Bahamas had the finest, softest sand I've ever seen!

St. Thomas

We did an island tour of St. Thomas, which was 2 hours of shopping, 2 hours of seeing the sites of the island, and 2 hours of snorkeling on the beach. Island golf course....

Puerto Rico

In Puerto Rico, we got to go to the tropical rainforest. It was really beautiful. Here's a view of the coastline from the top of an observation tower. We also got to go hiking in the rainforest and hiked to a beautiful waterfall.
